WELCOME TO ETCHINGS INDIGENOUS | | My name is Coral Reeve, and I am a member of the Gunditjmara nation. With a background in Professional Writing and Editing from Box Hill TAFE, and interests in radio and journalism, I am proud to be the Project Coordinator. After months of hard work, Etchings Indigenous: Black and Sexy is now out. We're thrilled with the quality of the publication, and I encourage everyone to support this important project: buy a copy at your local bookstore or order a copy through the Ilura Press online bookshop. I promise, you won't regret it. It is a beautiful book, filled with amazing stories, art and photography - 'a masterpiece', to quote Cr Frank O'Connor, Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, who launched the book.
| | Etchings Indigenous: Black and Sexy is Here! | "Modern Aboriginal identity is a perplexing issue for both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people; photography coupled with technology, in particular the internet, allows us to explore these issues." - Wayne Quilliam
Etchings Indigenous: Black and Sexy presents some of the best contemporary writing and art by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from around Australia. Discover the story of Payback Records, an Indigenous hip hop label founded by Essendon footballer Nathan Lovett-Murray. Some stunning photography by Wayne Quilliam, National NAIDOC Artist of the Year 2009. An interview with Kim Kruger, Project Manager of the famous Michael Long Walk. And artist/photographer Bindi Cole with writer Jirra Lulla Harvey, giving an insight into the stories of the Sista Girls from the Tiwi Islands, including Bindi's photograph that won the 2009 Deadly Art Award. Exceptional stories and poetry from Tony Birch, Ali Cobby Eckermann, John Harding, Dennis Fisher, Brenda Saunders, Nellie Green, Shirley Morgan, Katie Wyatt and many more. And if that is not enough, turn to the book and music reviews for some real gems there as well. Why not have a peek at what's inside?
