ETCHINGS INDIGENOUS

Modern Aboriginal Writing and Art

BLACK AND SEXY

Picture
Etchings Indigenous: Black and Sexy presents some of the best contemporary writing and art by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from around Australia.

Discover the story of Payback Records, an Indigenous hip hop label founded by Essendon footballer Nathan Lovett-Murray. Some stunning photography by Wayne Quilliam, National NAIDOC Artist of the Year 2009. An interview with Kim Kruger, Project Manager of the famous Michael Long Walk. And artist/photographer Bindi Cole with writer Jirra Lulla Harvey, giving an insight into the stories of the Sista Girls from the Tiwi Islands, including Bindi's photograph that won the 2009 Deadly Art Award.

Exceptional stories and poetry from Tony Birch, Ali Cobby Eckermann, John Harding, Dennis Fisher, Brenda Saunders, Nellie Green, Shirley Morgan, Katie Wyatt, and many more. And if that is not enough, turn to the book and music reviews for some real gems there as well.

CORAL REEVE

I am a member of the Gunditjmara nation. With a background in Professional Writing and Editing from Box Hill TAFE, and interests in radio and journalism, I am proud to be the Project Coordinator. After months of hard work, Etchings Indigenous: Black and Sexy is now out. We're thrilled with the quality of the publication, and I encourage everyone to support this important project by purchasing a copy. I promise, you won't regret it. It is a beautiful book, filled with amazing stories, art and photography - 'a masterpiece', to quote Cr Frank O'Connor, Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, who launched the book.

MANAGING EDITOR
JANELLE MORAN

Janelle's maternal family are descended from Melluhadee, an indigenous woman, from Cape Barren Island. She is a freelance writer and editor. Originally from Hobart, Janelle moved to Melbourne in the summer of 2000 to take up her first ever editorial position - working as a proofreader of telephone directories in a dank building in the industrial wasteland of Oakleigh. She has a background in English literature and teaching, and like all good nerds, has a minor obsession with the Joss Whedon TV show, Dollhouse.
